This is just a couple of examples of the kinds of icebreakers I will do with my students.
Paper-ball Snowballs
How to play:
Everybody gets a paper and pencil (even the teacher).
Everybody writes three things about themselves that nobody else knows. No names should be written anywhere on the paper.
Everyone crumples their paper into a ball.
On the count of three everyone tosses the ball into the air.
Everybody picks up a paper-ball.
One by one the kids read the message out loud and then guess who wrote it.
The Mix-up
How to play:
The teacher has the student find a partner who has similar physical characteristics. (i.e. Same color shirt, or same colored shoes, or same colored hair, etc.)
Once in pairs, the teacher will give each pair a topic to discuss. (i.e. Favorite bubblegum, talk about the movie you just saw, favorite musician, etc.)
On the count of three, everyone introduces themselves to their partner and then they start talking about their assigned topic.
After two - three minutes the teacher stops all current conversations.
.A new physical characteristic is given and a new partner must be found.
A new discussion topic is assigned.
On the count of three, everyone introduces themselves to their partner and then they start talking about their assigned topic.
Repeat until everyone has been paired with everyone once.
